Handy Work-Guido Daniele

We as stylist make art out of hair with our hands everyday. Guido Daniele, an Italian artist, makes art out of hands everyday. He literally uses hands as his canvas creating amazing images: animals, landscapes, people...it's insane. Some of his work is so amazing that you don't even realize that there is a hand there at all. AT&T asked for his help and imagination for an international ad campaign showing how the wireless phones could be used all over the world. Using scenes from different countries as inspiration, Guido created amazing art on hands for the ad. Check out the video of behind the scenes making of the AT&T advertisement.

Winter Hair Recipes with Yogurt

Looking for some fun Holiday Hair recipes? Check out these yogurt recipes for winter hair care:

"
1. Dandruff is a common hair problem during winter and this is why, you can prevent or get rid of dandruff using yogurt.

2. You can simply use yogurt on the hair and scalp few minutes before taking bath. Yogurt is an excellent product for dry hair.

3. Beat yogurt and then apply on the hair and scalp. Leave for 30-45 minutes and then rinse of with lukewarm water. Use a mild shampoo if required.

4. Yogurt and honey is a perfect recipe for winter care! Beat yogurt and add few drops of honey to it. Apply on the hair and leave for 30-45 minutes. This conditions the hair and stores the moisture therefore preventing the hair from becoming dry.

5. Yogurt when mixed with olive oil makes up an effective hair care recipe. You can add olive oil to the previous hair mask recipe. Mix yogurt and add few drops of honey and olive oil.

6. One of the yogurt recipes for hair care is yogurt and egg hair mask. This mask increases hair growth and strengthens the roots.

7. Beat and egg while whipping yogurt and then apply on the hair. The best way to apply this yogurt mask is by parting hair lines an applying on the exposed scalp. This way, you apply the mask properly. Leave it for an hour and then rinse off with cold water and use a mild shampoo.

8. Mash a banana and add it to the beaten yogurt. Apply this paste on the hair and leave for 30-45 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water and little shampoo.

These are few yogurt recipes for healthy hair. Yogurt improves hair growth, strengthens roots, acts as a natural conditioner and helps set the hairstyle. Always apply little hair oil before applying any yogurt mask on the hair. This prevents the hair from tangling and breakage.

Fashion- In Responce to Art Basel Post

In response to Greg's post about Art Basel, I wanted to kinda take the art inspirations and look how it transfers to fashion. A lot of the art that Greg was drawn to were pretty much geometrical shapes and bright bold colors and color blocking.

Let's Talk Crop

Last year-ish while shopping I noticed tons of crop tops- also known as belly shirts to us 1980s babies- and like I do with MANY other fads that come back from my childhood I thought to myself, "Self- this will never take off!" Welp- just like the skinny jean it is becoming apart of our every day fashion. As I always do when I am intrigued with a certain item of clothing that makes me curious, I researched a little history about it. Funny enough- or I guess not shocking at all- someone beat me to it- which is nice because it saves me a lot of typing. It is a pretty funny article- so you should read it.

Anyways- I took the liberty of giving you a few ideas of how to wear crop tops. They are not for everyone- true true. But you can get away without exposing yourself by layering a crop top over another shirt or with a dress even. It actually works.

Take a look at some cropper fashions:

THE SOPHISTICROP
THE SEXY CROP

THE ROCKER CROP

THE SECRETARY CROP

THE "I DON'T GIVE A CROP" CROP

THE HEPBURN CROP

THE EARTHY GIRL CROP

THE GOOD GIRL CROP

THE KITTY CROP

So I don't know if I should be thanking Madonna yet- but in the meantime happy cropping!

Inspiration: Our Pictures Of Our Favorite Shots We Took From Art Basel

Here is a photo recap of our recent trip to The International Art Show: Art Basel.

I was really drawn to the geometric shapes from all of these pieces. I love the way inspiration from art translates into a creative spark for hair! I think it's so important to find inspiration in alternative outlets outside of the industry.

Essentially this blog will act as an inspirational board for a look I will create! From this point I will build a design element on a head form and create a look inspired by all of the works showcased on this post. From the head form I will use my "map" to create the look on a block (mannequin). I will showcase the process of this design from start to finish. My hope is that this will promote you to do the same! Stay tuned!!!

Military: Back in Full Force

Apparently military fashion is coming back in- and with that knowledge I started researching the history of military influence on American fashion- call me a nerd, but it sparked an interest.

Did you know that military uniforms from the 1040's started making a fashion debut in the 70s?

It seems like every season fashion designers pay homage to our past military endeavors- we are always taking a look at new trends from pea coats, to militant style buttons, camouflage, navy blue, khaki, olive greens, ...there are so many little things that standard and historic military uniforms have contributed to our fashion. It's crazy!

Maybe it is the feeling of strength and power that these clothes conjure up? Maybe it's the pristine tailoring that people are drawn to? There may be many reasons why designers are continuously adding in flairs of military influences- but it is totally apart of our fashion world. If you want to read up more on it- read the info from this site- it's actually pretty interesting.

Hair Color Wednesday!: This One Is All About Blondes; Even in the winter blondes want to go bright!!

So it's practically winter and we've all heard it a thousand times before.... Go darker with your hair in the winter and brighter and lighter in the summer.

I am not saying I agree or disagree. I mean come on, everyone is different, both in personality and shape, color and size. So to dictate and entire mass to follow the same trend and same structure every year.... That gets a little.... boring.... don't you think!??

Well.... I Do.

So the next time you are thinking of taking that blonde hair darker, try this one on for size.

Expose Contrast!!

For instance say you have a very bright pale yellow... perfect shade of summery blonde. Well, it's perfect right? So why change it? Don't.... enhance it.

Behind every highlight of blonde you add incorporate a neutral to golden shade of a level 7 darkest blonde/lightest brown. The key here is to back your blonde up!
Do this by immediately placing a sliced section in front or behind the blonde and use the low lighting color.

This will create a high contrast in your color giving your a lot more depth while at the same time brightening up your blondes!!

Its super easy and really really healthy on the hair, so your not going from blonde to brown to blonde to brown to blonde to brown to......... you get the idea.

Have fun with it and like always we would love to hear your thoughts.

"All of our blowouts are fantastic and our spa experience is unique in itself, but what really sets us apart from other blow dry bars is that we only use our own eco-luxury hair care products, which have out performed most of the well-known brands in the industry since we launched," commented Michele Owen, Co-Founder and Creator. Michele further states "when we started this brand our mission was to change the hair care industry one product at a time and create an entirely new market segment that we call eco-luxury. Being the first eco-luxury hair care company wasn't easy, but the rapid success of our top selling feather lightweight Shine & Repair Serum has enabled use to expand our business and product line very quickly."

Never falling short of anything fabulous, BLOWLUX is opening their doors to the world with a star-studded party.

My thoughts:
I love this idea and think it's an amazing thing to offer in your salon. Target styling in your salons!! Blow Outs can be huge. Create a marketing campaign that fits your market and promote the blow dry!
I especially love the idea of the blow dry categories!!!

Take it further and put together different packages for the blow out. Including; brows, make up, nails and treatments!

Texture and color with yarn.

Check it out. Great shape and texture maximized with color using Yarn:

Hair in art.

I am always interested in the way artists see hair and portray it in their works.

As stylist sometimes it's hard to see hair beyond behind the chair. Use art as inspiration.

This is fun:
